About the Lenormand Gypsy Deck
This type of divination mode-Lenormand-was created by Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand who was a French professional clairvoyant “fortune teller” of considerable fame during the Napoleonic era. In France, Lenormand is considered the greatest cartoonist of all time, highly influential in the wave of French cartoonism that began in the late 18th century.
She was known as “Sybille des Salons” or Sibilia of the Salons, and was the “trustworthy” who read the letters to Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte. Its original deck had 52 cards and was published around 1828.
Initially this deck had 52 cards and a smaller version with 36 cards – the Petit Lenormand – was created around 1840 for better understanding. Each card has a specific number and symbol.
His figures are simple, objective, and with clear and precise meanings, leaving no doubt about the issues raised. The Gypsy Deck is not an oracle to be studied or memorized; rather, it uses the intuitive association and insight of the tarologist to answer the questions presented.
